Sorting Priorities: The Eisenhower Matrix
There’s always something demanding your attention.
The email inbox is filling up.
Your social media engagement is tanking.
The laundry pile looks like Mount Everest.
And—oh yeah—you still need to plan that client workshop for next month.
Overwhelm sets in, and suddenly, you’re spinning your wheels instead of making progress.
Sound familiar?
If you’re a Christian woman entrepreneur juggling faith, business, and family, you know that everything feels urgent. But is it really?
That’s where the Eisenhower Matrix comes in—a simple yet powerful tool to help you prioritize your tasks with clarity and confidence.
The Eisenhower Matrix: Sorting What Truly Matters
Named after President Dwight D. Eisenhower, this decision-making tool categorizes tasks based on urgency and importance. Here’s how it works:
Step 1: Brain Dump Your To-Do List
Before sorting tasks, get everything out of your head and onto paper (or a digital list).
Pro tip: Try using sticky notes! That way, you can easily move tasks around as you organize them.
Step 2: Categorize Each Task Using the Eisenhower Matrix
Now, let’s break your list into four categories:
Urgent & Important (Do It Now!)
These are time-sensitive and significant—think client deadlines, family emergencies, or urgent ministry responsibilities.
Important but Not Urgent (Schedule It!)
Tasks that matter but don’t require immediate action—like long-term business planning, relationship-building, or spiritual growth.
Urgent but Not Important (Delegate It!)
These tasks demand attention but don’t necessarily need your attention. Things like responding to routine emails, scheduling social media posts, or admin work—these can be outsourced or delegated.
Not Urgent & Not Important (Delete It!)
These are distractions—mindless scrolling, unnecessary meetings, or commitments that drain your time without adding value. Be bold enough to say no!
What This Looks Like for a Christian Entrepreneur
Let’s say you’re running a coaching business while also leading a Bible study group. Here’s how you might categorize your tasks:
Urgent & Important: Preparing for a last-minute client meeting or handling a financial issue in your business.
Important but Not Urgent: Writing your next book, developing a new coaching program, or investing in your spiritual growth.
Urgent but Not Important: Responding to every single social media comment or answering routine inquiries that could be handled with an FAQ page.
Not Urgent & Not Important: Saying “yes” to every volunteer opportunity or attending networking events that don’t align with your mission.
Faith + Prioritization = A Life of Purpose
The Eisenhower Matrix isn’t just about getting things done—it’s about making space for what truly matters.
Instead of reacting to everything that feels urgent, you’ll start making intentional choices that align with your faith, values, and business goals—planning within reason.
So, take a moment. Look at your to-do list. What can you:
✔Do now?
✔Schedule for later?
✔Delegate?
✔Delete?
The clarity will be life-changing—like discovering productivity hacks that will change your life.
And after you’ve sorted your tasks? Celebrate with a latte, a prayer of gratitude, and a well-deserved space for rest.
Sometimes, letting go of what feels urgent requires surrender—trusting that God will guide you to focus on what truly matters.
