What If I Stumble, What If I Fall?
Guest post by Dr. Daisy Sutherland
This post was inspired by a DC Talk song and after listening to it several times, I realized that the lyrics can apply to all of our lives. Consider this – have you ever dreamed of doing something but then thought, What if I fail, what if it doesn’t work out, what if I’ll look foolish, what if they laugh at me, etc.?
Now consider this – can you imagine if everyone gave into their fears? We wouldn’t have electricity, cars, homes, or any of the wonderful amenities we rely on today. Most importantly you would not be reading this post here today!
Can you imagine if your mama had decided it would be too difficult to become a parent, much less raise you? I know those are a lot of questions, but can you imagine if each time you stumbled, you simply gave up? This is a question and concept that can apply to all aspects of your life, past, present and future.
What if I stumble, what if I fall…can I keep going or shall I just quit? Do you allow your fears to take over or accept the possibilities? The possibilities that what you are setting out to do were in God’s plans for you all along? Have you ever stopped to wonder or simply consider if your actions, your thoughts and yes, even your failures, are all part of a bigger plan?
The song continues. What if I stumble, what if I fall…what if I lose my step and make fools of us all…will the love continue when my walk becomes a crawl…what if I stumble…what if I fall?
What will you choose? Your answer should be to move forward, push ahead, and continue on the path that has been laid out for you. Sure, there will be detours and possible dead ends on that path, but you should keep going!
Still confused and unsure? Instead of giving up, get up from your fall and put on the shield of courage and perseverance because you were made to succeed!
Use the adversities, such as falling, fear and crawling, as stepping stones to something bigger and greater than anything you could ever imagine. Don’t lay there with the scrapes on your knees and cry. Instead, get up, be strong, put your chin up, and understand you are great and made in His likeness! Remember He doesn’t make mistakes. The choice is yours; what will it be?? You are not alone – I’m in your corner!
