What does spiritual wellness mean to you? I was asked this question in light of the NACWE Education Theme of the Month and wanted to share a few thoughts!
Wellness Connections
Since I took my sick adult kiddo to the doctor today, wellness is definitely on my mind. Not just physical wellness, psychological wellness, emotional wellness and yes, spiritual wellness, but wellness as a whole. They all go together.
When you are sick with the flu, do you feel emotionally well? Do you feel like seeking the Lord? Are you emotionally at your best? The answer is a resounding “NO, of course not!” You aren’t well and you aren’t well in all those areas because they are connected. Wow, imagine that… (said with sarcasm)!
Ok, so now you are thinking, “Thank you, Captain Obvious, what other brilliance are you going to share next?” And, here it comes.
Wellness Connections – PLAN to Create Balance
Since all dimensions of wellness are connected, we have to seek and keep balance. Balance allows us to stay healthy in all areas instead of staying “well” in just one dimension. Sure, we can focus on an area and improve, but we have to have balance and therefore, PLAN to create balance. That is exactly what we have focused on last month. Karen Lindwall-Bourg started with Purposeful Planning in January. (Her book will be hitting the shelves soon!) This includes big picture planning and also small, seeking the Lord kind of planning by inviting the Lord into the layers of Plan, Design, and Follow through. (PDF²)
After that, we had Leslie Klatt show us how to plan weekly in the areas of our business and life to have balance. She encouraged us to plug in activities under Wealth/Abundance, Reputation, Love, Family/Networking, Wellness, Children/Creativity, Knowledge/Expertise, Goals/Opportunity, and Travel/Mentorship.
For example, under wellness, some may put physical activity, meal prep, prayer groups, time with God, or Bible studies. All of those things bring wellness, both in our business and life.
The next week, Deneen Troupe-Buitrago taught us how to maximize our time and success through daily planning by using her Super 8 daily planning system. Her amazing handout spurred us on to balance our daily duties including income producing tasks, business maintenance tasks, relationship building tasks, and self-care tasks.

As you can see, NACWE provides tips and training to find this balance. The NACWE Member’s group has this month’s webinars from Karen, Leslie, and Deneen along with other great blogs, podcasts, PPTs, and videos in the vault like “STEP FULLY INTO GOD’S PLAN FOR YOUR BUSINESS; WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE LOVE OF GOD INTERSECTS OUR WORK; and HOW TO TRUST THE GOD OF YESTERDAY WITH THE PROBLEMS OF TOMORROW. Yep, all of these bring balance and wellness.

Wellness Connections – Spiritual Wellness
As previously said, spiritual wellness is a balance of various areas of wellness, but is it more? Yes, I believe it is. It is that constant of giving it to the Lord and asking him to oversee, rearrange, redesign, adjust, bless, assist, and plain ole show up!
We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps. Prov. 16:9 (NLT)
Spiritual wellness is daily (think multi-vitamin) going before the Lord and asking, “Lord, what do you have for me today? What do you want me to do? Holy Spirit, who will you put in front of my eyes to listen to or love on? Lord, please guide my steps.”
It is also asking Him where He is already working and joining Him. It is watching, listening, and waiting. It is doing. Not doing it ALL, like we sometimes do when we tackle our lists and crank out our projects, but the steady, peaceful, surrendered service for His glory. It is thanking Him for the opportunity to share in His “greater” plan. It is, well… “spiritual wellness!”

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
