Tips & Tools: Marketing Mindset
Q:
I hate marketing–consider it a necessary evil. What can I do differently?
A:
Change your mindset, As fast as you can.
Here is the shift: You market every day, whether you think you do or not. Let me show you how we “market” for others without even thinking about it. When I tell you about a new restaurant that I love or you tell me about the new shoe store you found over the weekend. That is “word-of-mouth” marketing, which is the best kind. So my wise advice is to “get over it” and trust that you will learn how to market. The difference is that you are going to learn how to market yourself, your brand, and your company/product instead of marketing for someone else.
Marketing is a non-negotiable of having a business or staying in business. If you don’t market, you better be doing a lot more than just praying because you are going to need some extra help. The way I see it, God has given me a business. It is how He wants me to be used for His kingdom. So why would I NOT tell people about it? That would make no sense and would be dishonoring to God. It would be a waste of the gifts He has given me. I do not want to waste this valuable and unique gift from my Father.
My job is to be “out and about” for God. I call this the “go, do, and be seen” principle.
This is a BIG topic. More in future posts about marketing. Great topic, though.
