I once tried to fix a leaky faucet with duct tape.

Don’t laugh.

It seemed like a great idea at the time.

I had a full day of client calls, my son had just fed the dog his math homework (long story), and I couldn’t bear the idea of another expense on top of the five-dollar coffee habit I pretend is “networking.”

So I duct-taped the pipe.

Three hours later, I walked into the kitchen and stepped straight into a puddle of irony. Apparently, duct tape doesn’t stop plumbing leaks.

You know what else duct tape can’t fix?

Running a business on your own strength.

But let’s talk about what can.

God doesn’t call us to sit on the sidelines. He calls us to walk with Him.

Relying on God isn’t passive. It’s an active, daily choice to trade your anxiety for His peace… and your striving for His strategy.

It’s the practice of how to surrender to God not just in church, but in your calendar, your marketing, and yes—even your pricing.

So, how do you actually rely on God as a Christian woman in business?

It starts with three words:

Pause. Pray. Proceed.

Sounds simple, but I promise—it’s powerful.

1. Pause the Hustle

Your planner might be full, your inbox overflowing, and the bills knocking louder than your confidence. But when was the last time you paused long enough to ask:

“Am I running with God… or just running?”

We’re so quick to chase the next client, the next launch, the next online course that promises to 10x our business. But when we pause—even for five minutes—we create space for clarity.

And clarity doesn’t come from another webinar.

It comes from the Holy Spirit.

When you begin creating space for rest, you begin making room for His voice.

2. Pray Like It Matters (Because It Does)

Here’s the truth:

Most of us pray like we’re ordering a latte.

“Hi, God. I’ll take clarity, confidence, and a side of courage. Oh, and can You make it quick? I’ve got a call in 10.”

But prayer isn’t a drive-thru.

Prayer is the boardroom where you meet with your CEO.

When you rely on God, prayer becomes less about fixing things and more about aligning with Him. You’re not asking for a magic solution. You’re asking for His perspective.

And that perspective? It’s what sets apart the overwhelmed entrepreneur from the peaceful one.

It’s the secret to finding peace in chaos, especially when everything around you feels like it’s falling apart.

3. Proceed in Faith, Not Fear

Now, this part is important:

Relying on God doesn’t mean waiting until you feel 100% ready. (Spoiler alert: you never will.)

It means taking the next step, even when your voice shakes and your hands tremble.

Faith moves forward—even with imperfect plans and uncertain results—because it knows Who goes before us.

What It’s Not

Let’s clear something up:

Relying on God does not mean:

• Ignoring your business metrics and “just hoping it works out.”
• Undercharging because “God will provide.”
• Staying in confusion because you’re scared to make a decision.

God gave you wisdom and the Holy Spirit. He’s not glorified when you play small in the name of humility. He’s glorified when you walk boldly, knowing Who sent you.

And if you’ve been called to business (you have), then guess what?

You’re not supposed to do this without Him.

Relying on God means you stop trying to be everyone’s solution… and start seeking His solution.

It means you measure success differently.

Not just in dollar signs—but in peace, purpose, and people transformed.

But How Do I Know I’m Actually Relying on Him?

A few signs you might be doing this whole “relying on God” thing right:

• You’re starting your day with prayer instead of panic.
• You’re making decisions from peace, not pressure.
• You’re no longer afraid to say “no” to things that look good but aren’t from God.
• You’re willing to walk through doors only He could open.

And on the days you mess it up?

(You will. We all do.)

Grace.

That’s the beauty of relying on God.

He doesn’t need you to get it perfect. He just needs your yes.

Final Thought: Duct Tape Doesn’t Fix Everything (But God Can)

I never fixed that faucet, by the way.

I ended up calling a plumber. Paid more than I wanted to. But guess what? It stopped leaking.

Sometimes we have to admit we can’t do it alone.

Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do in business is raise your hand and say:

“God, I’ve tried everything. I need You to lead this.”

And He will.

He’s not surprised by your bank account, your burnout, or your broken strategy.

He’s just waiting for you to hand Him the duct tape and say:

“You take it from here.”
