Guest Blog by Joslyn Johnson
Hi, I’m Joslyn Johnson. A student with a business idea. And I became a member of the National Association of Christian Women Entrepreneurs in May of 2010. Unlike most of the women in NACWE that already have successful businesses established, I joined simply with an idea. Initially I wasn’t sure if it was a good fit for me; however, it has proved to be incredibly beneficial.
Being a member of NACWE offers an opportunity to graze wisdom from those that have gone before me, and helps me to avoid some of the same pitfalls they’ve experienced along the way. What I love about this group the most is that Jesus remains the center focus. We begin each session with prayer and then receive an abundance of resourceful knowledge that pertains to entrepreneurship, encouragement and godly principles.
While the business world can be competitive, you won’t find women in this group competing with each other. You find women of character propelling one another forward to succeed in what God has called them to do in the business arena.
NACWE has moved me forward in the entrepreneurial spirit. I discovered there is a difference between an everyday employee mindset and the entrepreneurial mindset. Employees are focused on how they can move up the corporate ladder, while Entrepreneurs are busy making ladders of opportunity for others.
Entrepreneurs are pioneers—cutting unpaved paths.
It is imperative to have mentors to look up to, and like-minded people to encourage you along the journey. The Bible admonishes the older women to train the younger women in the things of the Lord. In just a short span of time, as a member of NACWE I have obtained godly counsel in my endeavors, connected with fellow Christian women, and have been inspired to move forward in the vision that God has given me.
If you’re reading this it is probably because the Lord has placed a God idea on your heart. You might not know the “how to” when it comes to getting it done, or you might be looking for a support system. No matter what season you’re in with your business, I encourage you to get connected by becoming a student member of the National Association of Christian Women Entrepreneurs!
