Staying Committed To Your Business

January 16, 2013/in NACWE Lifestyle Blog/by Heather Rosson

Imagine a fish swimming in the wrong direction navigating itself upstream.  Entrepreneurs feel that way sometimes too.  You struggle through the barrage of business building challenges: the naysayers, the obstacles; and the mindsets and fears.  It’s enough to be engulfed by your own currents of overwhelm.  When you feel the struggle, it’s easy to forget about the commitment you made to yourself and your business.  You FEEL the challenges and stop listening to the wisdom of your heart and the direction it’s leading you.

Here is what happens.  Whenever you make a decision to go after what you want in your business, you will experience some kind of breakdown.  It could be anything minor to major.  You may experience self-doubt or questioning.  Your old mindsets and fears may try to settle in.  This is normal.  I see it all the time.  The moment you step out to play big, to take risks, and grow your business, you get broadsided by the unexpected and you lose sight of where you were heading.

It is helpful to ask yourself:  “What was my original commitment?”  For example was it to get more speaking gigs? What was the deeper commitment?  For example do you want to help transform lives.  It is  okay to take some time to regroup and revisit your original intention.  In order to keep your commitment to grow your business ask the following questions.

Who do I need to BE to honor my commitment?

What am I willing to DO to have what I’ve committed myself to?

What ACTION must I take right now?

Am I acting in alignment with what I SAY I want?

You must first make the commitment to do what you’ve intended, and then take the action(s) to move you forward. Step into the YOU,  you need to be.  Step into your leadership.  Make decisions as if you already are where you want to be.

I suggest surrounding yourself with people who can support you, keep you on track, and help you hold your dream.  Yes, the challenges can be discouraging, but imagine the reward you will experience of following through with your commitments and dreams.
