Refresh Your Entrepreneurial Soul With Creativity
If you are like the average entrepreneur, then you most likely have gotten into the habit of relying heavily upon your left brain to run your business and live your life. (An exception would be if your business is artsy or creative, of course.) So many of the day-to-day details needed to run a business are processed on the left side of our brains, like details, numbers, calculations, writing, habits, routines, and words! Chances are that you’re becoming bored if you aren’t proactive in designing creativity into your life.
Let’s break up that boredom, refresh your soul and get creative! The very nature of creativity is newness. Scientists have discovered that all things new are processed on the right side of the brain. Creativity experts claim you can become more creative by exercising your creative brain muscle, the right side of your brain.
One way to exercise your brain’s right side is to do new things. Try new ways of doing things. Try driving different routes to routine places. Be creative in everyday activities.
You don’t have to draw and paint to be creative (although art is uniquely helpful for this). Try new cooking recipes, planting new plants in your garden, doing a different kind of word or number puzzle.
Redecorate your house, read a new genre of book, or try a new arts and crafts technique. Brainstorm new ideas for your next marketing campaign. As you can see, creativity and exercising your right brain muscle is much more than about “art.”
Art builds up that creative muscle. The reason why is that words are processed on the left side of the brain. Symbols, pictures and colors are processed on the brain’s right side. The fastest and most direct way to refresh that creative muscle in your head is to make abstract art without any purpose, turning off the inner critic in your head (which would be your left brain talking).
So get out those crayons, markers, pencils or craft paints and just have fun! Don’t have any agenda or purpose in mind. Any rules that you put on yourself will hinder the refreshing effect of this exercise.
