12 Productivity Hacks that Will Change Your Life

January 1, 2025/in Entrepreneurship/by Heather Rosson

Ever feel like you’re spinning your wheels—working hard, staying busy, but not actually getting anywhere? You’re not alone. For many Christian women entrepreneurs, the hustle feels endless, and the to-do list? Let’s not even talk about it.

But here’s the good news: productivity isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing what matters—efficiently, intentionally, and with purpose. That’s where these 12 productivity hacks come in.

Ready to ditch the overwhelm and embrace a life where faith, family, and business can thrive together? Let’s dive in.

1. Plan to Succeed (Not Just to Check Boxes)

Failing to plan is…well, you know the rest. But planning isn’t about rigid schedules—it’s about creating a roadmap. Whether you’re a morning planner or a “figure-it-out-after-coffee” type, spend 10-15 minutes each day setting clear intentions.

If you’ve ever struggled with balancing structure and spontaneity, this guide on planning vs. going with the flow will help you find your sweet spot.

Pro Tip: Include your Task Snowball (more on that later) to build daily momentum.

2. Keep God First

It might seem counterintuitive to put “spiritual life” on a productivity list, but here’s the truth: when you prioritize your relationship with God, everything else falls into place.

No, you don’t have to start every day with a 5 AM Bible study (unless that’s your jam). The point is to stay connected—pray without ceasing, reflect on His Word, and let Him guide your day.

If you’re unsure how to deepen that connection, this resource on how to surrender to God offers practical steps to realign your heart and focus.

3. Work According to Your Personality

God designed you uniquely, so why force yourself into productivity methods that don’t fit? Some of us thrive on structure; others need flexibility. Identify your strengths and work within them.

If you’re building connections as part of your business, understanding your style can help. Check out these questions to ask while networking to make authentic connections that feel natural.

4. Master the Art of One-Touch Processing

Ever read the same email five times without taking action? Guilty.

The One-Touch Rule changes that. Whether it’s email, physical mail, or sticky notes on your fridge:

  • Touch it once.
  • Decide—delete, delegate, or do.
  • Move on.

Want to declutter your inbox even faster? Here’s how to clean Gmail inbox fast for quick and effective email management.

This hack saves hours of mental clutter every week.

5. Stop the Scroll (Yes, I’m Talking About Social Media)

Since 2007—the year smartphones took over—productivity has been in decline. Shocking? Not really.

Your phone isn’t the enemy, but how you use it can be:

  • Remove unnecessary apps.
  • Use screen time trackers.
  • Schedule “scroll-free” hours.

Social media can work for your business, but only if it’s not working against your focus.

6. Kill Notifications—Before They Kill Your Focus

Ping.
Ding.
Buzz.

Every notification pulls you out of deep work, and it takes an average of 7–8 minutes to refocus. Turn them off. All of them.

The world won’t end if you check your email three times a day instead of 37. And remember, action brings clarity—not endless notifications.

7. Pomodoro Sessions: Small Time Blocks, Big Results

The Pomodoro Technique is simple:

  • 25 minutes of focused work.
  • 5-minute break.
  • Repeat.

After four sessions, take a longer break. It’s perfect for tackling big projects without burning out. Plus, it’s oddly satisfying to race against the timer. (Bonus: your laundry will never be folded faster.)

8. The Task Snowball System: Your Secret Weapon

Imagine starting your day with wins before 9 AM. That’s what the Task Snowball System does:

  • Make a list of quick tasks (under 10 minutes).
  • Knock out 2–3 of them first thing.

This momentum carries into the rest of your day. Because nothing feels better than crossing things off a list.

And if you ever feel stuck, just remember: laziness is a myth. It’s often a sign that you need clarity, not more motivation.

9. Power Hour: Tackle the Tough Stuff First

We all have that one task—the one that looms over us like a dark cloud. That’s your Power Hour target:

  • Do it first.
  • Do it focused.
  • Then, enjoy the relief of knowing it’s DONE.

(Yes, it’s as liberating as it sounds.)

10. Clear the Mental Clutter

Ever lie awake at night with 87 thoughts racing through your head? Time for a brain dump:

  • Grab a notebook.
  • Write down everything—to-dos, worries, grocery lists.

Getting it out of your head makes space for clarity. Your mind isn’t a filing cabinet. Don’t treat it like one.

If mental clutter is weighing you down, practicing gratitude helps refocus your thoughts. Here’s how to practice gratitude daily to create a more peaceful mindset.

11. Schedule Sleep and Self-Care (Seriously, Put It on the Calendar)

Self-care isn’t just spa days and scented candles (though those are great). It’s about rest—physical, mental, and spiritual:

  • Prioritize sleep.
  • Schedule downtime.
  • Take care of YOU, so you can take care of everything else.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, try creating space for rest to recharge both your mind and spirit.

12. Leave Space for the Unexpected

Not every minute needs to be scheduled. In fact, leaving margin in your day allows for creativity, spontaneity, and—most importantly—God’s interruptions.

Sometimes, the most productive thing you can do is nothing at all.

Productivity isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress.

You don’t need to master all 12 hacks today. Pick one. Implement it. Then add another.

Before you know it, you’ll feel less overwhelmed and more in control—not just of your business, but your life.
