Moving Pains: The 5 M’s of my Moving Weekend!
As I moved my house and my office this weekend, I experienced some major pain. Yes, my back hurts. Just like growing pains, there is quite a bit of pain in the moving process. This is both physical and emotional pain. As I was thinking about this and rubbing my aching muscles, I saw the similarities to being an entrepreneur. I noticed that there were 5 m’s from my moving weekend.
My first M was Motivation. We were prepared to move, with many boxes packed, things ready to go, and yet there is always the last minute things. My husband I were very motivated about the move. We are excited at how fast the house sold and looking forward to the new house. We sold the house to the only person who looked at it, and it was only on the market for 3 weeks. As an entrepreneur, we can’t survive without this motivation that gets up fired up again and again. We also never know how long things will take. Don’t give up too soon. Find ways to stay motivated!
M #2 was Mud. As we continued with load #2 and #3 the rain started. And thus the mud gathered on the driveway area, on the dolly and pretty much on all of us. This mud for the entrepreneur might look like reasons for you to give up. It might come in the form of someone challenging your dream or not believing in you. It might come in the form of resistance to your new prices. It might even be mudslinging. Don’t be afraid to get dirty. Find ways to clean up when you need to with a fresh perspective!
My third M of the day was none other than Mosquito’s that were so happy to enjoy the mud and the rain. If there is a mosquito to be found, it will find me and tell all of his/her friends to come on over! I am a mosquito magnet, and I HATE IT! So here I am, sweaty, sore and getting eaten alive. Just like the entrepreneur journey, there will be bugs along the way. Setbacks and annoying distractions love to come our way and bring their friends “unworthiness” and “jealousy”. Do not give up as you swat them away. Find ways to invest in yourself with the best bug spray you can find!
M #4 was the MEAL that we shared with our team of helpers….of course we had pizza. Are you allowed to have anything else on moving day? This was between load #2 and load #3, so we had some hungry and wet men and women. It was fun to slow down and have a minute to talk and laugh with each other. As an entrepreneur, remember you need fuel to keep going. Don’t get caught in the workaholic trap of not taking care of yourself. Find ways to set boundaries and keep yourself fueled for the race!
M #5 was some of the MEMORIES along the way. We can choose to look at the world from good glasses or bad glasses. I choose good! We laughed a lot throughout the day as funny things happened. We laughed at the mud and the mosquitoes. We laughed at each other. We made some memories! As an entrepreneur, be sure to stop long enough to see the memories you are making. Don’t push yourself so hard that you never look back to see the path you have travelled. Find ways to celebrate and acknowledge your success!
Being an entrepreneur has some pain…the pain of the unknown. But the blessings are immense! Enjoy the journey! And find a good massage therapist.
Thank you for the M’s…great article and so very inspiring!
Loved the article!!! Couldn’t help but think of a 6th M word for you! “Magical.” That’s what it is when you are in a new place seeing it all come together and knowing that the hard work is worth it all. So happy for you to have a new home and a new office knowing that great things are ahead!!
