Marketing in the Bible: What Jesus Knew That We Forgot

October 29, 2025/in Christian Woman Entrepreneur, Entrepreneurship/by Heather Rosson

I never thought I’d say this, but the best marketing mentor I ever had was… Jesus.

Yes, that Jesus.

And no, He didn’t run Facebook ads or send out weekly email funnels. He didn’t build a personal brand in Canva or obsess over open rates.

He did something even more powerful: He told stories. He knew His audience. And (this might sting a little) He never apologized for the value He brought.

So Why Do We?

Let’s be honest.

You’ve got a gift. A business idea. A solution that can genuinely help someone.

But every time you try to promote it, your heart does this weird tango of:

“I don’t want to be salesy.”

“What if they think I’m doing it for the money?”

“Should I just give this away for free?”

And before you know it, you’re undercharging (again), questioning your offer (again), and Googling “God-honoring way to market my business” at 2am.

If that’s you, I have good news: the Bible is not silent on marketing.

In fact, it’s full of marketing principles—yes, Biblical marketing—that you may have read a hundred times and never realized.

Let’s look at a few.

1. Jesus Knew His Audience (and So Should You)

One of the most overlooked truths in Scripture is how often Jesus tailored His message.

To fishermen? He talked about nets and catching people (Luke 5:10).

To farmers? He talked about seeds and soil (Matthew 13:3–9).

To the woman at the well? He talked about water and spiritual thirst (John 4:13–14).

He never used a one-size-fits-all pitch. He didn’t blast the same message everywhere and hope it worked.

He understood the person in front of Him, and met them there.

That’s marketing.

Not manipulation. Not persuasion gymnastics. Just deep awareness of who you’re called to serve and how to speak their language.

If you’re a Christian woman entrepreneur, this is your reminder: marketing isn’t about being someone else. It’s about being real with the person who needs what you offer.

2. Stories Sell. Even in Scripture.

Jesus didn’t hand out three-point brochures. He told parables.

  • The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25–37)
  • The Lost Sheep (Luke 15:3–7)
  • The Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11–32)

These weren’t just cute illustrations. They were strategic.

Stories connect. They bypass walls and go straight to the heart. That’s why we remember them.

So if you’re struggling to share your offer, try this:

→ Don’t pitch it.
→ Instead, tell a story about someone who needed it, used it, or was transformed by it.

Make it real. Make it relatable.

That’s marketing—and it’s Biblical.

If you’re building a faith-based business, story is your superpower. Use it with purpose, not pressure.

3. You’re Not Selling. You’re Serving.

Here’s where Christian women get tripped up:

We think “marketing” is a dirty word. We worry that charging money somehow taints our mission. We hesitate to ask because we don’t want to seem greedy.

But here’s the reality:

You can’t serve people you’re afraid to reach.

Jesus didn’t hesitate to speak boldly. He didn’t say, “If it’s okay with you…” He saw needs and addressed them.

You’ve got a solution. You’ve got a calling.

And guess what? God is not glorified by your silence.

Now, I’m not saying you should slap a Bible verse on your sales page and call it a ministry. What I am saying is:

Marketing with integrity doesn’t mean marketing in silence.

It means being honest. Clear. Inviting. Respectful. Bold in your belief that what you offer has value—because it does.

If you’re praying over your next launch, your next offer, your next price increase—that’s not wrong. In fact, your prayer for business sales could be the most strategic move you make.

4. The Proverbs 31 Woman? She Was a Boss

Oh yes. Let’s talk about her.

That Proverbs 31 woman we’ve heard so much about?

She wasn’t just baking bread and ironing tunics. She was buying fields. Importing goods. Selling merchandise. Running her household and her business at the same time.

“She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes.” — Proverbs 31:24

You know what that is? Marketing in the Bible.

She knew how to trade. How to produce value. How to sell without shame.

She wasn’t apologizing for it. In fact, she was praised for it.

Let that sink in.

If God saw her business as praiseworthy, then why wouldn’t He see yours that way, too?

So go ahead—implement the strategies, read the small business tips and advice, and show up for your business like it matters. Because it does.

5. Your Message Matters

Marketing isn’t about slick slogans or clickbait headlines.

At its core, marketing is about getting your message to the person who needs it most.

And if you believe your business is a calling—then marketing is a ministry.

It’s not optional. It’s not selfish. It’s how people find you.

The woman God wants you to help? She’s not going to find you if you’re hiding behind “I don’t want to be too salesy.”

And yes, you can still be kind, humble, generous—and make a profit.

Final Word: What Would Jesus Post?

If Jesus had an Instagram account, I don’t think He’d post selfies and product promos.

But I do think He’d speak directly to people’s hearts. He’d tell real stories. He’d meet people in their struggles.

And He’d invite them into something better.

That’s exactly what your marketing can do—when it’s rooted in scripture, strategy, and service.

So if you’ve been holding back, shrinking down, or second-guessing your right to grow a God-honoring business…

This is your permission slip.

Marketing is in the Bible. And it’s in you, too.
