Learning to Respond
Guest post by Doreen Penner
It’s the little things that can make all the difference! If you want to stand out above the rest, an easy thing you can do daily, to attract people to you and your business, is to give a response when it’s needed.
One way to make a positive impact on people is simply to respond when they’ve asked you to. They may need you to respond with an answer to events, situations, and even phone calls. It’s amazing how that “little extra” can leave a favourable impression. Swami Sivananda says, “Put your heart, mind, intellect and soul even in your smallest acts. This is the secret of success.”
Unfortunately, it is increasingly common for people to not take the time to make small acknowledgements, answer emails, or provide feedback. Responses get delayed because people are busy, schedules are full, or they just don’t take the time. That is why doing follow up is so important; people just put things aside or let them slide entirely
Why do people choose to not respond? Perhaps they have been conditioned that way, or maybe they just don’t see the value a simple response can bring. Here’s the truth. By not responding, you appear complacent, uninterested, even cold. That’s not very appealing, is it?
Make responding a personal life strategy, and especially in your business. BE the difference. BE the one who stands out. In fact, respond with flare! Send that card, encouragement note, or small gift. People will appreciate you when you give a quick and thoughtful response.
Responding works in your favour. You’ll appear more receptive, reliable, and responsible. It gets you noticed and shows that you care about the person or situation.
Responding leads to future possibilities. When you’ve taken the time to provide quality feedback, or contributed to someone in some way, you hit the radar screen. People remember you and may call on you in the future.
Responding shows character, adds quality, and reflects professionalism. Responding is magnetic. You’ll attract more into your life when you do the “little extra.” It is a small thing to do, but it can make a world of a difference. Always respond.
