How Journaling helps my business!
I admit it…I journal. I have been journaling since high school on a regular basis. It looks different now and the things I write about are very different, but it is still a valuable tool for me.
It is important for me so take a step back and check in with myself. I need to see where I am emotionally as I build my business. Often, I need to refocus in on my dream. Reading back through my journals helps me to see how far I have come and the successes I have had. It helps me to step outside of myself and look in. It is here in the self-reflection that I can look at myself. I can get really honest. I can share my thoughts and feelings. I can talk about my fears and frustrations.
I know that some of you may have never kept a journal before and I want to challenge you to give it a try. Don’t knock it until you try it. Maybe it is just what you need to cross over the next bridge in your entrepreneurial journey.
There are many ways to journal:
Coffee Shop Journaling: I take my journal and grab a cup of coffee and just write. I let the words pour out. It might be bullet points or just stream of consciousness. I often end the journal entry with a letter. Sometimes this is a letter to myself and other times it is a letter to God.
Success Log Journaling: This technique I started when I was using the Get Clients Now 28-Day marketing system. At the end of each day, I log 2 entries into my small spiral notebook. The page has the date and then 2 sections, “Successes of Today” and “Things I Could Do Better Tomorrow.” I take the judgement out of it and really just try to observe myself. I use a bullet point system.
Computer Journaling or a Blog: Many people use their blog as a sort of journal. It can be a place for you to be as honest as you want to be. Or you could just use a word document and type a journal entry.
Facebook: In many ways, my facebook page becomes my online journal as I share my life with my friends and the world.
I encourage you to journal and see what happens. Share your story. Live your live on paper and process what is happening.
Be authentic. Be true. Be YOU.
Coffee shop journaling. 🙂 I am liking that idea!
I do a success journal and log my “proud of you” moments. When ever I feel I deserve a pat on the back, I write a letter to myself telling myself how proud I am of me! ;0) It really reminds me of my “high points” and encouaregs me again wehn i later reflect!.
