Fresh Oil
Some weeks turn out being different than anything you’ve ever known. This is true of the week I just experienced. There has been much reflection and self-examination. Our church was called to a time of prayer and fasting. The church was open every night for people to come and pray. Some prayed into the early morning hours.
One night during the prayer and fasting, God brought to my remembrance a song by Cathy Walker that I had not heard in a while. The title is Fresh Oil. It is a simple chorus, but the words moved me deeply last Monday night, as the small crowd gathered, held hands, and prayed. These are the words:
“Fresh oil, fresh anointing; oil of refreshing has come.
Fresh oil, from the green room; oil of Your presence flows here.
You make me lie down in green pastures with the One my soul adores,
Your right hand does embrace me, and from Your head green oil does flow.”
This song carries a powerful anointing. My heart sought to be in His presence this week -to be in the presence of the Most Holy, the room He has prepared for intimate prayer and fellowship. Ah, to commune with Him.
James 4:8 tells us, “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
I ask God to allow that fresh oil to flow from Him, over every inch of me and to make that way plain in every path He would have me walk. When you are walking in your own might, it’s easy to overlook the best path. Sometimes that path is overgrown with a cloud of self-doubt, or maybe it’s a small, often overlooked path. Sometimes the most obvious path is not the one to take.
My husband and I are facing many decisions right now. It would be easy to move forward in one direction or even in several directions. We have many doors in front of us right now. Onlookers may think they see the best doors for us to open.
One thing I am certain of, this week of intense prayer and fasting has shown me what I need most is the fresh oil from the Lord Himself. All these other things will fall into place – my business, my job, my ministry, my husband’s ministry.
“Seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” – Matthew 6:33
