I love serving the Lord and carrying out the ideas He gives me. Quiet Time Ministries (www.quiettime.org) was the Lord’s idea. He gave it to me about 17 years ago in my quiet time. I was burdened for those who want to know and love the Lord and don’t know where to begin in their quiet time with Him. My prayer is that we learn to dedicate ourselves to God in quiet time, drawing near to Him each and every day in His Word. Even Jesus had a quiet time (Luke 5:15-16).
I am passionate about teaching devotion to God and His word. And I am passionate about quiet time with the Lord and devotion to God because God is passionate about it.
He desires an intimate relationship with us—I call it radical intimacy. God wants to change us from the inside out and that happens in quiet time by showing us what is true in His word. As we learn to trust Him, we discover a hope, peace and contentment that nothing can touch. It makes the difference in who I am, the life I live and where I’ll be in one year, five years, ten years, even 20 years. Time is short. Eternity is forever. So investing in things that last forever is the best investment we will ever make.
I am blessed with a great family, very supportive. I live with my husband, David, (married 28 years) in the scenic Coachella Valley of California, near the resort city of Palm Springs. We’re avid golfers and we enjoy nature photography. I enjoy the support of my friendships with the women at our church where I am Director of Women’s Ministries, the team I serve with as founder and president of Quiet Time Ministries, and women worldwide at our online community of Ministry For Women (www.ministryforwomen.com).
On Being an Entrepreneur
What frightens me about being an entrepreneur? The tremendous responsibilities can be overwhelming at times, but I launch out in the strength and power of the Lord. Those things that seem daunting also excite and challenge me at the same time.
What is my big dream for my business?
I am caught up in dreaming with the Lord about the things that are in His heart. I dream of writing books that help others draw near to God. I dream of giving messages that help others experience the Lord in new and deeper ways. And I dream of hundreds of thousands worldwide becoming passionate and on fire to know Christ and daily live in His Word.
The most important thing I need to do to achieve this dream is spend time with God every day. And understand that my success will only be measured in terms of the Lord’s plans and purposes. I will know it was all a success when I hear those words from the Lord Himself, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Every day I’m challenged to live out God’s Word in my life and ministry through the books I write, the messages I give, and the people I meet. I believe the Lord finds and delivers those who need to read and study the books I write and hear the messages I give.
The biggest risk I have taken in my business? Well, one of the things I did early on was design my own website. Best thing I ever did – that was maybe 12 years ago or so, but by doing it I learned the computer, the internet, website design, and how to use Adobe
software. Another risk I took early on was typesetting and printing my own books. Great move, got the ministry underway, and sold books to groups so they could immediately study the Word using my books of quiet times.
What 3 tips would I share with a friend setting out on her own entrepreneurial adventure?
- Draw near to God first every day and listen for His ideas—cultivate a rich devotional life with Him.
- Don’t be afraid to try the ideas He gives you – learn to say “I can’t, but He can”.
- Become computer, software and internet savvy.
