Hi all,
I know that you are in the middle of “COVID Crazy” right now. It is a weird, eerie feeling as you drive into town and pass closed diners with their chairs put up, unopened hair salons sitting there while your hair (and color) grow out, and schools empty while your kids remain at home.
In fact, you may suddenly have become a “teacher of the year” without even getting your teaching degree! You may even work from home while you cook, teach, and do everything else right now.
Or perhaps you are filing for unemployment as your employer may have let you go because of the Coronavirus crisis. All the normal things in your life have been unexpectedly turned upside down.
Conquering Concerns One Thought at a Time – You Are Not Alone
Well, fellow entrepreneurs, you are not alone. We are all in this together. No, it is not easy, but we will make it through. And while we trek through this together, we know a few things.
First, we don’t have control over the circumstances in our lives. They are facts. Our current circumstance is that COVID-19 is in many nations and people are getting sick and some are dying.
However, we do have control over our thoughts and feelings. We do have control over our actions and the results we get from those actions. And we do have choices!
Let’s look at this together:
Conquering Concerns One Thought at a Time – CTFAR
CTFAR–What is it?
Circumstances →Thoughts →Feelings →Actions →Results
As you can see, each one follows the other. We cannot change circumstances as they are facts, but everything else we change in a positive or negative direction.
Here is an example for you.
Circumstances: COVID-19 means the kids are home from school and I am home from work. (FACT)
Negative Thought Pattern:
Negative Thought: This will be awful as I don’t know how to school my kids.
Feeling: Overwhelmed
Actions: Complain, Freeze up
Results: Kids feel your stress and are anxious, unmade plans, chaos
Positive Thought Process (PTP):
Positive Thought: This will be work, but I “get” to teach my kids for a while.
Positive Thought: I need to teach my kids and work from home for a few months and I am so glad there are great resources out there to help me
Feelings: Calm, ready to get started
Actions: Get on the internet to plan, ask a teacher friend for help, ask God for help
Results: Connection times with your kids (yes, even though it may be crazy at times)
Do you see the difference? They are the same circumstances, but the positive and negative thoughts lead us down different paths. One makes us swirl downward in a frozen mess, unable to take much action and causing additional stress in the lives of our family. The other, positive path, leads us to a place of hope in a situation where we can take action resulting in educating our kids to the best of our ability while building a connection with them.
Conquering Concerns One Thought at a Time – CHOOSE
So, there you have it. You have the choice!
As we walk out this Corona crisis, let’s invite God to teach as we walk into the scary unknowns ahead. Let’s ask Him to help us take control of our thoughts, feelings, actions and results.
