Ask Diane: What is my mission?
Real Entrepreneurs. Real Questions. Real Answers.
Question:
As a new entrepreneur, people ask me what my “mission” is –what do they really mean?
Answer:
We each have a “Why?” A reason, a mission, a purpose. God placed us here for a reason and He needs our gifts to be used. What is your purpose? What is the purpose of your business?
Why do you do what you do as a female entrepreneur? That is your “Why?”
This mission or passion is the foundation of your business and your life. It runs as an undercurrent beneath the surface whether you are aware of it or not. Your business exists for a reason. It serves people. It offers a product or system. It might help to relieve pain or frustration. It might offer solutions and strategies and make the world easier.
Sometimes our mission feels so big, that we avoid it. It feels like it is too much for us. I wish I had a $100 for every time I thought to myself, ―who am I to do that? We don‘t see that we have been specifically chosen by God for a reason.
Due to the vast mission and our huge “why?” we might tend to be wary and possibly even avoid claiming our mission fully. We know what it feels like, but we struggle with the ambiguity of the facts.
My mission is to inspire women to dream big, catch on fire, and change the world. But what does that look like—what are the facts of my mission?
Well, I have the great joy of living my mission throughout the day. Let me show you some examples:
- I am living my mission as I coach my clients or lead a group.
- I am living my mission when I meet a friend for coffee.
- I am living my mission when I post a quote on Facebook.
- You get the picture. It fits and it is the foundation I live my life out of.
What is your mission? What is your why? And how would we see evidence of it today in your life?
