Ask Diane: Am I an Entrepreneur?
Q:
You gals are a fun breed, but I’m wondering if I belong. Am I really an entrepreneur if I simply have a home—based business?
A:
I’ve said it before, entrepreneurship is more a state of mind than a particular job. It depends on what God is telling yoto do. I remember telling my best friend (quite loudly), that I was ―not a business woman. Funny, huh?
God takes us where we need to go and give us what we need to get there.
Your business (and your state of mind) is an ever-evolving, dynamic, living creation. It is a gift from God and to be guarded carefully. When I first started my business, I would have never defined myself using the term ―entrepreneur. I really thought that term was reserved for men in high-rise buildings wearing fancy business suits.
Little did I know that I would become an entrepreneur and then help other women to embrace their inner entrepreneur. Are you stumbling down the entrepreneurial path like I did?
I feel like I slid into entrepeneurship sideways, but when I look back I see God‘s hand all over my journey. As I reflect on my life and work I can see that I had an entrepreneurial mindset from a long time back.
If you are innovative, if you are molding an idea, a product or a service, and willing to take the risks required in order to succeed, yes I do believe you are an entrepreneur.
What about you? What do you think an entrepreneur is? Who is an entrepreneur? And did you know you were one at the onset of your journey?
