Simply observing people can be quite revealing. You have probably formed an opinion on a person, based on what you saw. Likewise, you never know when someone might be zeroing in on you and watching your personal presence and professionalism.
A person’s experience of you can be a deciding factor in whether or not they will choose to work with you. I am a big believer in living with integrity and consistency in and out of business. You are a walking brochure. People don’t just buy your services, they actually buy YOU: your confidence; your authenticity; and your uniqueness.
You need to be modelling (personally and professionally) what you are selling or the service you are providing. Do the two go hand in hand? If you claim to be a successful entrepreneur, does it show up in the rest of your life as well? For example, if you charge high fees, are you being seen driving a rust bucket? If you’re a professional image consultant, are you running around in jeans and a sweatshirt? You get the idea. You need to walk your talk.
Here’s a mental quiz to see if what you do (business) and how your show up in the world, are in alignment.
- Do you walk your talk consistently?
- Are people attracted to who you ARE and what you HAVE in your life (joy, confidence, etc)?
- Do people want to work with you, and be with you? In other words, is your personal presence inviting to others?
- What do people notice about you…your positive qualities, and warm personality? Or your little “burrs” like grumbling and complaining?
- How does your presence show up in the world? Is it client attractive?
Make sure you are representing yourself and your business in the best light possible. Your success depends on it. Don’t let people determine you’re a frumpy professional or a business “wanna be”. The next time you look in the mirror, think about the message you are sending. Is how you are choosing to show up, personally and professionally, being client attractive? The way people see, and experience you, can be a huge factor to your success.
