Are You Living Your Big Dream?
by Diane Cunningham
All our dreams can come true- if we have the courage to pursue them. – Walt Disney
“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”~ Ephesians 2:10
We all have a dream, a heart’s desire. When we aren’t pursuing our dreams, we spend our time and abilities pursuing the things we think will make us happy, the things we believe will bring us fulfillment: the new house, the new car, the new outfit. Most people have gotten so far away from living their dreams that they have forgotten what their dream truly is.
God has planted a dream in you that is yours to fulfill. He is calling your name to pursue the opportunity. He is inviting you to live a life bigger than you can imagine.
So then, what is stopping you? What are your excuses? Why aren’t you living your dreams?
We are trained to honor something much more than our dreams, the comfort zone!! To challenge the comfort zone brings fear and excitement.
We have a choice, each day, if we will listen for God’s call. We have a choice to sit in the “comfy zone” for awhile longer. But once we know there is something bigger for us, that “comfy zone” becomes uncomfortable. We feel afraid to take a risk.
We all have a choice….to stay where we are or make a move. Will you choose to be a grown-up who does NOT believe or move forward to being a grown-up who will have a child-like belief in BIG DREAMS coming true? I encourage you to BELIEVE!
DREAM. DECIDE. DO.
Dream Big
You have to start with a dream. Maybe you can’t even remember what your dreams are. You had them as a child, before life got in the way. I encourage you to pray and use writing exercises to dust off the dreams that are hidden inside you. Make a list of all that you want to do in life.
Decide on Something
Now you have to take the Big List and whittle it down so you can make a choice about what you are going to invest in. Ask yourself lots of questions, talk to God, and then listen for answers.
What fits with who you are?
What makes your heart sing?
What is your passion?
Do something about it
This means that you need to take action and make a commitment which brings out all of your fear again. Then the “Negative Nelly’s” in your life show up to tell you why and how this is “so silly” and ask you if you have “considered the consequences.”
I’m not asking you to be foolish or do something that is not well thought out and researched. This is the time to throw a small pebble in the pond, not the boulder. Try taking one step at a time and see where God is leading you.
To really find out about your dream, you will have to make some goals, create some new habits, and be uncomfortable. You have to be brave today. To change a habit requires work. And so it is with your dreams.
You can discover what your dreams are, how to select one to pursue, and how to fulfill those dreams….but if you don’t act on it, you’ll never know if you can or can’t make it. It’s your choice.
God believes in you. He knows what He is asking of you. Allow Him to be your strength. Believe it can be done. Your mind will create a way if you let it.
