A Peek Inside My Office
Looking around my office I see piles of items; it reminds me of my father’s office when I was growing up. My dad works full time outside the home, but also runs a home-based business. The entrepreneurial spirit is in my genes. The piles in my office are sometimes comforting and at other times, they gnaw on my perfectionist tendencies, which I also inherited from my father. But these items are what keep me sane and help me to get the most done. Today I thought I’d share with you a peek inside my office.
On my desk you will find a pile of notebooks, simple spiral-bound, single subject notebooks, like you might have used in school. Each notebook has a purpose, one for my check register and finances, another for client information, and a third for planning. Underneath them is a three-ring binder. This is the heart of my business and holds my Operations Manual, paperwork on my team and on each of my clients. One glance in this notebook and you’d know how my business works.
Let’s move around a bit, to my other desk; yes, I have two. There is a basket with my Bible, a leather journal and my latest Bible study, which I use daily before I even turn on my computer. There’s also an inbox and outbox for important papers and bills. When a bill comes in, it goes into the inbox. Once sifted through and mailed, any papers I must keep are put in my outbox to file away later.
If you look at the corner of my office, you’ll see two bookcases. On the top of one is a file box, where I file important papers and bills after my inbox is too full. Lately I’ve convinced my oldest son to do it for me (there’s a tip there for you).
Finally, my bookcases hold tons of books, more binders, notebooks and journals that have long ago been filled to the brim. Order, structure and a way of doing things is what keeps me sane in my business and why I love my home office. I hope my ideas will kindle some new ones for you on how you can become more sane in your home or business.

Loved it! Great articulation, engaging and let me have a glimpse into your everyday life. Good job1
Nice to see the “whole” picture! It amazing how many things we use to run our business. I too have bookcases filled with books. I am such a lover of books, I’d have those anyway. My father was also very entrepreneurally minded. My mom was also very creative. I have some areas of order, and some chaos. I think there is some order in my chaos though… It’s a blessing to have a space.
Thanks for the peak behind the scenes 🙂
