3 Things To Consider When Creating a Legacy
Guest Post by Laurie Knight
Ever wonder what makes you special? Ever find yourself wondering what your purpose is or should be? Ever wonder what God wants you to do with your life or what you could offer that could change the world or contribute in a bigger way? Ever wonder why you’re here and what your legacy is supposed to be?
Consider these three things to nail down your inner genius, draw from your experiences, take pride in what you know right now, appreciate what’s happened in your life, and proactively take the next steps towards living your divine legacy starting today.
Years. What significant life events have you had over the years from which you’ve learned or grown stronger? What have you personally gained from your own life and experiences that has brought you to where you are today? What has been your personal journey of joy, suffering, sacrifice, or accomplishment that you could share to encourage, inspire, or teach to others? Take a moment to evaluate the years of your life and determine what purpose those years may have in the big picture of your divine legacy.
Tears. Not everyone would choose to shed tears, because it’s often associated with pain or strong emotions. However after the fact, we are typically able to realize how powerful that moment must have been. Sometimes we will spontaneously cry when we’re moved to happy tears in the moment, when we’re in a situation that’s painful and we need the release, or when we simply are searching for answers and are lost or confused.
Think of some times when you’ve been moved to tears. This could be the place where your passion, purpose, creativity, enthusiasm and inspiration lie. What situations, events, people, or circumstances have brought you to tears, either happy or sad? What situations or events bring up strong emotions in you? What is the message or bigger meaning in your tears?
Fears. This area is tempting to ignore. We often know what comes with facing our fears and that typically involves some deep internal work that we may or may not be able or willing to do at the time. Fear often stops us dead in our tracks when we’re pursuing our passion and purpose. Yet once fear is conquered, we can have many of the things we desire, including freedom and more opportunities.
The folks who use courage to evaluate and take action despite their fear are those who get results. Do you want to be one of those who get results? What do you fear in your life? What are you afraid will happen if you follow your heart’s desires?
What are you running from, that if you turned around and stared straight in the face, would no longer have such power over you? What would your life look like if you faced fear more often?
We’re provided with opportunities everyday to use our life in a bigger way. Those years weren’t just for mindless entertainment, those tears weren’t for nothing, and our fears are there to remind us that’s there’s more and that it’s necessary to stretch.
Often being scared means it matters, which usually means it’s worth thinking about, looking at, and acting on as well. These three things have contributed greatly into who each of us are and how we make decisions and pursue dreams in our lives. What meaning do your years, tears, and fears have for your divine legacy?
