3 reasons we all need a FRIEND BINGE!

I just love a good friend binge!  I know you are asking “what in the world is a friend binge?”  It is a power packed time of shopping, eating, talking, laughing, and maybe even some dancing.  It is often a short time when we gather to visit a friend at their home or meet for a trip or training event. 

Over Labor Day weekend, I got to have a friend binge with my friend Sara from college.  We realized that we have been friends now for 18 years….but amazingly enough we look so much better now that we did when we first met. It is funny to think of the perms we both had that year when we were Resident Assistants in the freshman dorm.  We have so many stories and adventures from our time in the dorms and on trips since then.  We have photos.  We have a history together.  And we had not seen each other in 2 years which is way too long. 

Throughout this month of September, we are celebrating friends.  The 3^rd Sunday of September is officially known as National Women’s Friendship Day.  As the founder and President of the National Association of Christian Women Entrepreneurs, I know that I would NOT be the successful woman that I am today without a team of friends, both near and far.

Reason #1 is for the FUN!

Life can get so serious.  We need our friends to help us let loose.  On a recent friend binge, there was some country dancing that occurred here in Texas.  And I happened to lose my footing on the slick two-stepping dance floor and managed to slide myself across on my hip.  Truly this was hilarious!  And it made for quite the story in the days after as well.  Friends give us those times where we could “pee in our pants” from laughing so hard moments.  We need this fun!

Reason #2 is for the FOCUS!

Friends have a way of cutting right to the chase and really getting honest with us.  We need this to help us gain our focus and our momentum.  They can help us stop wandering.  They can “speak the truth in love” about things that they know intimately.  They can help us reach a goal or just stop whining.  Sometimes we just need a little kick in the “booty” from a friend! 

Reason #3 is for the FAITH!

We need our friends and the frequent friend binge because they have faith in us.  They hold our dreams and see our hopes.  They believe that we have what it takes and there is no reason to give up!  And better yet, when we can stop at any time and pray with our friend.  When my friend Tandi came to visit me in Texas for our friend binge earlier this year, I took her to church with me on our last morning together.  We need the faith and love of our friends!
