Ask Diane: What is Affiliate Marketing?

November 29, 2011/in Diane's Blog/by Heather Rosson

Ask Diane
What is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a marketing practice in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliate’s marketing efforts.

Examples include rewards sites, where users are rewarded with cash or gifts, for the completion of an offer, and the referral of others to the site. The industry has four core players: the merchant (also known as ‘retailer’ or ‘brand’), the network, the publisher (also
known as ‘the affiliate’), and the customer.

The market has grown in complexity to warrant a secondary tier of players, including affiliate management agencies, super-affiliates and specialized third parties vendors.

There is amazing benefit to offering an affiliate program. It creates a built in referral process and a way to offer a gift of compensation to your referral partner. It is a win-win. We tell our clients about programs, books, trainings, events, etc. all the time.  This is a way to get paid for what you would be doing anyway.

How can you use the affiliate concept in your business?

Don't Stress, Delegate

November 28, 2011/in Diane's Blog/by Heather Rosson

Guest post by Alyssa Avant

I have often heard the phrase, “Don’t go it alone.” However, I have also often not heeded its warning. I am just the opposite and want to try to take everything on my own, with the thought, “If you want something done right, do it yourself.” Many times I’ve tried to tackle circumstances, projects and deadlines on my own, alone.

Though not as easy, it is often smarter to follow the advice, “Don’t go it alone” and allow others to help you on your quest to meet a deadline, deal with a circumstance or tackle a project. Allowing others to help, or delegating tasks to others, can give you a sense of control. Even though it may seem that you are giving up control, you can be more in control by allowing others to help.

Sometimes there is so much to be done that if you try to do it alone, you’ll end up more stressed out and much less organized. Delegating will not only free you to work more focused on your tasks, but also will lessen your stress, allowing you to work more quickly and more smartly on the tasks at hand.

It is true that you will want to be careful when delegating. There are things that are important to us that we will want to take on ourselves, but then there are those routine time-sucking tasks that you can allow others to do for you.

You will feel a weight lifted and you may be able to help others in the process. You may help your kids to learn responsibility or teach your co-workers or subordinates a skill they may not have already had. There are many benefits to delegating, not only for you but for the others involved.

So, remember, when faced with a mountain of responsibility, don’t stress, DELEGATE!
