Tips & Tools: Get Your Life Organized

April 20, 2011/in NACWE Lifestyle Blog/by Heather Rosson

Top 5 Ways To Get Your Life Organized- Business Owner Edition
Vickie Minella

Do you want business growth? Do you want to increase your productivity with less stress? Do you crave a better strategy for your overall day? Then you need to get organized! Here is a simple top 5 list of ways to start:

  1. PLAN: Block out time to plan. If you do not plan your upcoming week, or even upcoming day, you may end your day disappointed. This does not need to be a long amount of time, just 30 minutes or less to review what you have going on and to synchronize schedules .
  2. WRITE: Write your top 3 goals for the week, every week. Be consistent each week to set goals for yourself and your business. This allows you to track your progress in a proactive manner as well as quantify your accomplishments.
  3. SAY NO: Just say no when asked to help or lead something new. Well, not forever. But at least until you have aligned your goals with your plan of action. Start thinking before your say yes to new initiatives and weigh the outcomes with your list of written goals. Do they line up? Remember to stay on track. It never hurts to take a night and sleep on the ‘yes’ before delivering your answer. You will thank yourself in the long run!
  4. DECLUTTER: Out with the old and less of the new. Keep it simple. Less really is more. A clean, organized, work area and home are the key to increasing your productivity. But first you must part with the clutter weighing your down and implement healthy habits that accommodate your life style.
  5. ADJUST: Review your plan regularly and adjust where needed. If you try something and it does not work, then try something else. Everyone is different and there is no cookie cutter formula. You have to do what works for you. This applies to both organizing products as well as systems. If you find this step difficult, it may be best to enlist the help of a professional organizer or coach to help you set up a strategy that works best for you.

There are proven health benefits to living an organized life. The key is getting organized and sticking with the systems you put in place. The outcomes can remarkably change your life and increase your business. Get organized today.

Ask Diane: Do You Have a Coach?

April 19, 2011/in Diane's Blog/by Heather Rosson

ASK DIANE

Do you have a business coach and why?

Funny, I started with a new business coach last week and I am very excited.  I am working with Sandi Krakowski as a member of her GOLD program.  I have worked with a variety of coaches over the last six years and I love each of them.  I think it is a non-negotiable for us to have a coach who can mentor us, train us, and get us to the next spot in our business.   Coaches need coaches too.  I love being able to coach women to get to the next phase in their business.  Find a coach that is the right fit for you and make the investment in yourself.

Spirit-Filled Connections

April 18, 2011/in Diane's Blog/by Heather Rosson

Guest Post by Kathie Best

Entrepreneurs are a blessed breed. We identify our passions and own a vision to carry it out and see it through. Christian Women Entrepreneurs have the inside scoop from our ‘Big Boss’, CEO, who planted our passions as tiny seeds. Through the years we toil, cultivate, and carefully prune what God gifted us to tend. We grow spiritually, alongside our businesses.

This is hard work, gals.

We could not see it through if we did not connect with other women who have experienced the pain, fear, failures, and success that each of us endures along our journeys. God has connected us with helpers since the beginning (Genesis 2:18). He knew life would be hard sometimes. He is good, and he always sends his Spirit and others so that we will not be alone.

I am new to the entrepreneurial world. I met with Diane Cunningham, (President and Founder of National Association of Christian Women Entrepreneurs (NACWE)) in January. She guided and directed as we discussed my passions and visions. She helped me form a business plan. I joined a Mastermind group and connected with other Christian Women Entrepreneurs. I birthed my business in January. I spent 90 days with them and learned more than I can list in this limited space. I feel as if my head may burst from all the ideas. And I know with their help and guidance, I will succeed.

These gorgeous women share their knowledge, passions, and spiritual giftedness. Without Diane and “my Master Minds”, I would be struggling, trying to figure out my next step, and my next, and – my next.

They are fellow business owners, but also business leaders. They affirmed me and rejoiced as I shared my individual insight, and they helped me see my leverage. They exhorted me by challenging me to adopt nothing less than high standards for my business. They submitted to God, and met my needs for learning how to identify my niche, my strengths, and my weaknesses. They built me up.

This is what we receive as members of NACWE. We form safe spiritual relationships with women who help each other succeed. We encourage each other through toils, and assist and affirm one another as we cultivate and prune. We celebrate our victories.

I am thankful God placed me in this association. I am reminded daily through my connections with women I only “met” through the Mastermind group and “friended” on a Face book wall that God is my Big Boss and ‘you’ are my fellow, passionate, visionaries.

Explore the Messages of Holy Week in a Journal

April 17, 2011/in Diane's Blog/by Heather Rosson

Guest Post by Theresa Ceniccola

The Passion of Christ is such a powerful story and yet sometimes I forget how much it relates to my own life today. I simply go through the motions during Holy Week and don’t allow myself to truly experience the lessons as God intended. I think this is because the traditional mode of “listening” in church is not enough to engage me.

I’m a visual-kinesthetic learner, which means I need to see and move in order to process information. That’s why journal writing is such a critical tool for me. I use my journal to help me reflect and examine different perspectives. I even bring my journal to church to take notes during the homily, write down scripture passages or hymnal verses and remain fully present and engaged during Mass. If you’re looking for a new way to explore the lessons of Holy Week, try keeping a Lenten Journal.

Twelve Writing Reflections for Lent

Judas: Betrayal

Write about a time when you felt rejected or betrayed by a friend. How did you react? How was this similar or different from the way in which Jesus reacted to the betrayal by Judas? Write a description of this person. Describe the friend in detail including all of his or her strengths and weaknesses. What do you know about this person that may have caused him or her to betray you?

The Religious Leaders: Envy/Jealousy

Write about a time when you experienced envy or jealousy. Describe a time when you judged others unfairly or felt unjustly judged by others. How did you call upon the strength of Christ in this situation? Now write about the same situation from someone else’s perspective. Can you see both sides of the story now?

Peter: Denial

Recall a time when you were willing but weak — a time when you avoided doing the right thing. Are you facing a difficult choice in your life today?  Describe your choice in detail and listen for God’s voice as you consider your options. Try scripting a conversation with God in your journal.

Pontius Pilate: Courage

Pilate was persuaded by the crowd to condemn Jesus to the cross. Describe a time when you acted out of fear or were persuaded by others to do something you knew was wrong. Write a letter asking God for the courage to stand up for what you believe.

Soldiers: Criticism

Describe a time in your life when you felt mocked or criticized by others. How did you react – anger, defensiveness? Write a prayer asking Christ for the strength and patience to react with conviction and humility.

Simon: Service

Recall a time when you felt pressed into service for another. Did you accept the task willingly? What are the crosses you bear today? Find a scripture verse, hymn or quote to inspire you and lift the burden of those crosses. Write it in your journal or on a nice paper and keep it someplace where you can see it.

Women of Jerusalem: Compassion and Empathy

Describe a time when you showed compassion or empathy for another who was troubled or grieving. How is it a gift to yourself when you are able to help others? Name a time when you focused on others rather than yourself. How can you allow others to receive a gift by helping you? Write a thank you note to yourself from someone who has received the gift of compassion or empathy from you.

Criminals: Forgiveness

Jesus tells the penitent criminal “Today you will be with me in paradise.” He also calls out to God, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” Recall a time when you were forgiven by someone. How did it feel to be relieved of the burden? Write a letter of forgiveness to someone who has wronged you.

Mary: Finding Joy

Jesus meets his mother and tells her not to weep. Describe a time in your life when you were able to find humor, joy or a ‘silver lining’ in the midst of pain and suffering. Use clustering or mind-mapping to explore your thoughts on the word “Joy.” Start by writing the word “Joy” in the center of your page and then use free- association to add words or phrases that come to mind. When you have covered your page, take a look and notice any themes that emerge.

Soldiers: Worldly Possessions

Jesus was stripped of his clothing and soldiers gambled for his belongings. Name three of your most prized possessions. Why they are so meaningful to you. What would happen if you were to lose them? Write in your journal how you would feel.

Jesus Dies on the Cross: Surrender

Just before He died on the cross, Jesus called out in despair, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Describe a time when you felt abandoned and hopeless? Later, Jesus surrenders to God’s will: “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.” Name one area of your life which you desire to turn over to God entirely. Write a dialogue with God asking for Him to lead the way for you in this area of your life. Promise to follow His lead.

Easter Sunday: Alleluia

Just as Jesus overcomes death, we are called to rise above our failures, our burdens and our struggles. Write a prayer in praise of God for His almighty power and thanking Him for your own personal victories and triumphs. Make a list of “50 things God has done through me.”
