17 of My Favorite Bible Verses
17 days until I turn 40.
I wanted to share with you 17 of my favorite bible verses. Each have meaning for me and have carried me through different seasons. Many of them will be familiar to you. I was born and raised in church, baptized as an infant and asked God into my heart at age 12. There has never been a time that God was not a part of my life…even though I have had seasons where I have drifted far from Him. He always woos me back and shows me how much He loves me, in spite of my failures and shortcomings. I love my conversations with Him and how he transforms me daily.
- Exodus 14: 14 “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
- Proverbs 3: 3-4 “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of the Lord and humankind.”
- Romans 8: 26 “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.”
- Romans 8: 28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. “
- Romans 12:9 “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.”
- Psalm 37:4 ” Delight yourself in your Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
- Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
- 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 “Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited. I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away fromme. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
- Ephesians 2: 10 “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
- Philippians 4:6-7 “Don’t not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
- Colossians 3:17 “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
- Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.”
- Proverbs 4:23 NLT “Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do.”
- 2 John 6 “And this is love; that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.”
- Proverbs 3: 5-6 “Trust in the lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
- Matthew 7 : 7-8 NIVE “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; those who seek find; and to those who knock, the door will be opened.”
- And my favorite verse, my life verse is from the Message, Ephesians 3: 7-8 “This is my LIFE WORK: helping people understand and respond to this Message. It came as a sheer gift to me, a real surprise, God handling all the details. When it came to presenting the Message to people who had no background in God’s way, I was the least qualified of any of the available Christians. God saw to it that I was equipped, but you can be sure that it had nothing to do with my natural abilities.”

I love your list! What great verses, thank you for sharing. I especially love your Life verse. I have a Life verse too and have never thought of sharing why….you have inspired me to do that!
