Bio: Joslyn Johnson – Helping Others Renew Their Minds
Joslyn Johnson is blessed to have a first name which means “joyous” in Latin. Joslyn has made it her life decision to always be joyful and to bring joy into the lives of everyone she encounters. At a very young age, Joslyn knew she wanted to help people. Although her desire to help others led her down the path of exploration of the field of psychology, she eventually realized the power of influence through media and therefore shifted gears towards the study of communications. Joslyn went on to obtain her bachelor’s degree in broadcasting and cinematic arts from Central Michigan University in 2008.
At the age of 19, her desire to help people led her to become the youngest resident assistant and multicultural advisor during her sophomore year in college. It was during this time that Joslyn was given the opportunity to provide guidance to residents in her hall, who came to her and trusted her with issues such as mental illness and suicide. The position of multicultural advisor provided her the opportunity to train others in Residence Life on issues such as intolerance and diversity. Joslyn held this position from 2005 until 2007. She decided to spend her last year off campus. However, this decision did not cause her to become disconnected from the university. During her last year of college she was the president of Victorious Student Outreach, a ministry which helped people in the community. In addition to being the president of an on campus outreach group, she also served as the executive producer of MHTV Live, a variety show targeted towards college students, and producer of News Central, where she was nominated as one of the nation’s top campus news producers.
After graduating from college, Joslyn embarked upon a quest to answer the question, “How can people change for the better?” One who desired to help others live the abundant life, she realized that in order to have an abundant life, one had to have a renewed mind. Upon realizing this, a fascination with the brain and the process of change began, and still continues in her life today.
Her desire to help others has transferred into a career focused on training and development. Joslyn has recently been certified as a business/life coach and is currently in the launching stages of her company Speak Life. Speak Life is a multifaceted company that focuses on coaching, workshops, retreats, speaking engagements and training and development. In addition, the business will contain Speak Life Cards and a focus on deliverance ministry.
One of Joslyn’s ultimate goals is to open a center that is dedicated to bringing healing to people through mind renewal as well as a training center to teach people to go out and help others learn to renew their mind. Education is very important to Joslyn, and she is currently working on master’s degree in human resources and training and development at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. Joslyn currently holds a position as a residence hall director. She oversees 301 girls, trains and manages 12 resident assistants, and is continuously working on creating a nurturing environment within the residence hall.
